1:1 Devices

All Richland Jr/Sr High School students receive their own device every August in order to offer them the tools needed for 21st century learning. Teachers will direct students to when they can use the devices. Students must turn in their 1:1 at the end of each school year. Lost or damaged items will be charged to students.

Acceptable Use Policy

All computers at Richland High School are to be used responsibly, efficiently, ethically, and in a legal manner. All students are required to sign an acceptable use policy at the beginning of the school year.

Cell Phones

Per HB 1160 and SB 2354, starting in the 2025-2026 school year students may not utilize or access cell phones during the school day. They must be stowed away during the day. More details to come before school starts.

Bullying

Bullying of or by a student or school staff member is against federal, state, and local policy and is not tolerated by school administration or the school board.

Bullying is conduct that occurs on Richland Jr/Sr HS property, at school sponsored events, during school event travel, and in some cases, even off of school property and outside school hours - such as with cyberbullying and online harassment. It is behavior that is severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive enough that it substantially interferes with a student's educational opportunities.

Bullying can be conduct that places a student in reasonable fear of harm.

Reports of bullying or possible bullying should be made immediately to school administration. This can be done anonymously or with one’s name via the online tool on the district website, the bullying reporting form in the main office, in person, or by dropping a note in the blue boxes around the school. School administration will conduct an investigation into all reports of bullying.

Dress Code

Students are expected to wear clean, neat, and appropriate clothing. Excessively torn or tattered clothing is unacceptable. Clothing that is obscene, revealing, or suggestive is prohibited in school or at school functions.

Additionally:

All tops must have full backs; shoulder straps should be at least two inches wide.
Tops must fully cover the stomach.
Skirts and dresses cannot be shorter than 5 inches above the knee.
Jeans may not have rips more than 5 inches above the knee.
The following clothing will not be allowed to be worn in the building: jackets, hoods, hats, backpacks, and sunglasses.

During the winter, students are required to wear closed-toed shoes and a coat. They cannot wear shorts. This is also required in order to ride the bus.

Visitors and Building Use

Student visitors are permitted if approved by the building principal. Requests must be made at least 2 days prior.

Any groups or teams wanting to use the building must complete a building use form and submit to building principal.

The fitness center should not be accessed by students during the school day. It can be accessed outside of school hours only by those who have a fitness center membership and fob.

Prom Guidelines

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are permitted to invite dates to prom.

The youngest grade that is allowed to attend as a guest is 9th grade and the oldest age to attend is 20.

Outside guests must complete a form and turn it in to the building principal at least two weeks before the dance.

Closed Campus

Richland Jr/Sr High School operates under a closed campus policy. Students may not leave during the day unless a parent has notified the office with permission to leave. The exception to this policy is senior students who have earned senior privilege.

Additionally, if signing in/out early or late, students must enter and depart through the main office. They should not use any other doors.

Schedule Changes

Students and parents should be cautious about any course schedule change that may impact graduation requirements, scholarship eligibility, and college acceptance. Students will have one week from the start of the semester to request schedule changes. They must fill out the schedule change request form and ensure it is signed by a parent, the teacher of exiting class, and the teacher of new (requested) class. It must then be turned in to Mr. Potter, school counselor.

Food and Drink

With the exception of water, students should not bring any food or drink into the classrooms.

Parking on Campus Lots

Students may park in campus parking lots and are responsible for the safe, legal operation of their vehicle. School rules apply to student vehicles when on school property or at school sponsored events. Any vehicle parked on school property is subject to search if there is reasonable suspicion it contains dangerous or unlawful property, or items in violation of school policy. Parking lots are subject to school video surveillance.

Homecoming Court Eligibility

All students classified as seniors are eligible to be voted onto the Homecoming court. Seniors who have been suspended out of school in the previous 4 weeks are ineligible. The first round of voting (by all grades) determines the court which is comprised of five males and five females. The second round of voting determines the king and queen from the 10 members of the court.
